40 over 40 project - Amie - Supermum, Superwoman

Amie is a Super mum and a Super woman!

Amie has to be one of the most selfless people I have had the pleasure to meet.  She is a single foster parent of 4 children and before having her gorgeous children, taught children with special needs.

She lives for her children.  Taking them to shows, on holidays, bush walking and bbqs; so of course she takes lots of photos to celebrate their lives.  People often ask why she isn't in them though and she tells them "I am the one taking them".  She explained to me what the truth is "I don't really like the way I look in photos.  I was born with a large portwine birthmark that covers the side of my face, I never feel beautiful".  She also mentioned that some people think she looks scary.

It's true that when you meet Amie, you see her birthmark. However, spend a minute with her and the birthmark fades as you listen to her speak of the love for the children she fosters, and of course for her own children.  During our session, you could see Amie visibly relax.  It was such an honour to give Amie some "me" time and to pamper her the way she pampers all those around her.

I'll let her tell you her thoughts on her session;

"When I got the e-mail to say I had been chosen as one of the 40 women I was excited and started making plans, I should get my hair coloured/cut, maybe I should try and loose a bit of weight etc. Then the night before the photoshoot came around and I hadn't done any of the things I had planned. I was in a panic, what should I take to wear? I don't own 6 nice outfits, maybe I should cancel. In the end I grabbed the 2 tops and 1 dress I found I owned and went. Of course by the time I had got 2 children off to school and another 2 off to childcare (including a last minute outfit change for one) I was late. I expected to be met at the door by someone very annoyed and possibly have the whole thing cancelled. Instead I was met by the lovely Kylee who introduced me to Mel. Both Mel and Kylee chatted and made me feel comfortable straight away. Mel set to work on my hair and make-up. I never wear make-up, I don't even own any because I always think I look silly with it on. Mel must have some magical super power because when I got to see myself in the mirror I was internally giggling like a school girl. I actually thought to myself, wow I don't look too bad. Then it was time for photos with Kylee. She told me how to stand like a turtle doing yoga, in such a way that I looked at my best. She was calm and patient with me. After the photoshoot I had to go to the shops. Now every time I go to the shops people stare at me, when you have a large birthmark on your face it is just something you get used to. However on this day I was walking around smiling because on this day I thought, people are looking at me because I look good. For that I say Thankyou."

Amie, you are beautiful inside and out and I'm glad you got to see that through your experience that day.  Always hold your head high x
