40 over 40 project - Renelle is a mother, avid runner and 2 time breast cancer survivor!

Renelle is a really positive lady.  When she applied to be a part of the 40/40 project she said “I do feel beautiful a lot of the time so I probably don’t meet your criteria”.

This project was about celebrating women; their lives, their loves and their passions.  It was about showing everyday women that their lives, good or bad, meant something. That no matter what they were going through or had been through, it all means something.  It all culminates to shape who we are and how we see ourselves. The ladies chosen for this project, were chosen not just because they had a “sad” story.  They were chosen because they had a story that I felt others could relate to.  Sometimes these stories were sad, because life isn’t always a picnic, but some of these stories were compelling to me because of how these ladies had the ability to go through a tough time and come out the other side stronger and wiser for the experience.  Renelle was one of those ladies.

Renelle first saw my images when a friend of hers had a session with me last year.  She explained that she thought they were stunning and had liked my facebook page thinking that one day she would organize to have professional photos done of herself, as she has never done anything like it before. When I announced the 40 over 40 project, she decided to apply because “your story is great and I like how you overcame it (health issues) and saw the positives in life.  I think that is important to loving life and yourself”.

Renelle is the mother of 2 gorgeous kids, a public servant, is an avid runner and is also a 2 time breast cancer survivor.  She explained that after having a double mastectomy, she is now living life to the fullest.  She exercises regularly because it helps her stay healthy, both physically and mentally.  She said, “I’m 41 years old and have a long life ahead of me.  I am not going to spend it thinking I am not beautiful…but you could make me more beautiful”.  I love her attitude and it was such a pleasure to photograph this lovely lady.

This is what Renelle had to say about after her session that day;

“I can honestly say I was quite stressed about what clothes and shoes to wear and bring to the photo shoot. I realised once there I didn’t need to be stressed.  U made me feel so comfortable.  I had fun - being a model is obviously hard work, but I enjoyed every minute of my pamper. Thanks to Mel for her wonderful hair and make up.”

I hope your time with us reinforced for you how incredibly strong, energetic and beautiful you are!  Thank you for sharing your story, it was such a pleasure to meet you.
